Introduction to Professional Skills Studio
- Tuesday, January 30, 2018 from 4:00pm to 5:30pm
- Strand Union Building, 168 - view map
This is the first workshop in the MSU Professional Skills Studio. The Professional Skills Studio provides opportunities for students to develop the professional soft skills employers want in job applicants and new employees.
Many employers, both local and national, reported that students were underprepared when they entered the workforce due mainly to a lack of professional soft skills that allow an employee to become assimilated into an organizational culture and to perform at high levels within and meet the expectations of an organization. The Professional Skills Studio was developed to help our students close this skill gap and be better prepared to enter the workforce.
The Professional Skills Studio covers such topics as: Professional Communication; Salary Negotiation; and Work Place Socialization & Organizational Culture.
Often times, these professional soft skills are not taught in the classroom alongside the technical and theoretical knowledge learned there. Completing the professional skills certificate, and adding it to your resume and LinkedIn profile, therefore, will not only signal to employers in the job search and application process that you recognize the importance of these skills and are taking steps to acquire them, but they also will position you for success from day one in your first job and allow you to advance in your career to achieve professional growth and the higher pay that comes with it.
Participants who enroll and complete all the workshops are eligile to receive a $125 gift certificate for professional attire.
