2018-2019 Surge Mentors will meet for a full day to train and prepare for mentoring the next incoming Freshman class and help Surge them into their Sophomore year! The Sophomore Surge, in partnership with CLS 101 and US 101 University Seminar (US) CORE courses, is designed to support first-year students in their transition to college through exploration, examination, and development of their identity, interest, strengths, values, and goals.
In Fall of 2018, there will be a Surge Mentor in every section of CLS 101 and US 101 First-Year Seminars, up to 70 sections impacting approximately 1,200 incoming MSU Freshmen through enrollment in their required first-year seminar class. Surge Mentors will engage the Freshmen through discussion and activities intented to build classroom community, foster identity as a new college student, promote critical thinking, inform of engagement opportunities, resources, and knowledge, and guide them through the freshman year and beyond.
This training is for Surge Mentors only; mentors should RSVP to plan for meals.
