Richard Gibson, co-founder of the Tobacco Root Geological Society, will present "Butte: Much More Than Copper: at this week's Earth Sciences Seminar. The presentation will be held on Thursday, October 4th, from 12:15-1:30pm in Gaines 243. Coffee will be provided at the event.
"This presentation explores two topics: the early silver mining story of Butte, focused on the Bluebird Mine and Mill on the west side of the district, and contact metamorphic mineralogy along the southeastern margin of the Boulder Batholith, where two plutons trap a narrow wedge of metasedimentary rocks between them in a zone informally called the Screen."
