Title: Signal processing of acoustic gunshot recordings
Due to our recent work creating the apparatus and methodology for scientific and repeatable collection of firearm acoustical properties, we now have a better understanding of the gunshot sound characteristics that may be relevant when addressing law enforcement investigations with audio forensic evidence. However, understanding the effects of the acoustical environment of the crime scene, and the strengths and weaknesses of the common types of recording devices when faced with the peculiarities of gunshot sounds, remain challenging research areas. The presentation includes examples and discussion.
