The Arts of Islamic Spain: 711 to 1492 from MSU Wonderlust
- Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm
- Hope Lutheran Church 2152 Graf St Bozeman, MT 59718
MSU Wonderlust presents a four week, non-credit course on Spain's multi-cultural heritage and unique place in European history. In 711, migrating Muslims arrived at the Iberian Peninsula which was home to Visigothic Christians and a Jewish minority. Thus began eight centuries of a rich and diverse culture characterized by Convivencia (living together) and the violent 'triumph' of the Christian Refconquista (reconquering) in 1492. The course will explore Christian, Jewish, and Islamic arts and architecture of historic Spain. Warning: you will want to visit Spain!
Art historian Dede Taylor will lead the course. Taylor taught in MSU’s College of Arts and Architecture for thirteen year.
The class will meet once weekly for four weeks beginning April 17, from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church. Registration is required.
