Dr. Phil Stewart is a distinguished professor of chemical and biological engineering at Montana State University, where he heads the Biofilm Control Lab, situated at the Center for Biofilm Engineering. This past year’s sabbatical allowed Dr. Stewart to focus energy and attention on the intersection of biofilms and immunology, a nexus where deeper understanding is likely crucial to preventing chronic biofilm-related infections on medical implants. In his talk, “Medical implants, infection, and innate immunity,” he will report on collaborations and ideas developed during visits to Denmark and Calgary, showing images and video of innate immune cell recruitment to biomaterial interfaces, and offer tips on where to go for a drink in Singapore and Copenhagen.
