STUDENT ASSISTANTS, Starting at $14.50/hr

Basic Needs Assistant

Job Description: Support efforts related to student food security, housing, and public assistance programming. Basic Needs Assistants will be responsible for operating our campus food pantry front desk while maintaining a clean, welcoming, and uplifting environment for visitors.

Required Qualifications:

  • CPR/AED certification (or signed up for a course within first week of hire)
  • Desire to help students acquire resources with basic needs
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs
  • Maintain a current, valid driver's license

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a welcoming and uplifting experience for all students engaging with the Basic Needs Program
  • Clean, stock, and organize the campus food pantry
  • Answer the Basic Needs phone and email
  • Operate our food rescue truck, picking up and distributing food in town
  • Train volunteers

 

Club Sport Assistant

Job summary:

Club Sports Assistants will learn how to organize, plan, and execute games and events for club sports teams.  Assistants should have a desire to learn about the Club Sports program to create a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons and participants.

Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and tear-down equipment for club sports events

Events Assistant

Job summary:

The event assistant helps with special events related to reservations. This includes events related to internal or external groups. This staff is responsible for set up and take-down of all events, and monitoring of events.

Responsibilities:

Job summary:  

The Membership Assistant will provide a welcoming and inclusive environment when patrons come to the facility. They will maintain knowledge of Campus Recreation membership, programs and services as well as working knowledge of Student Wellness. Membership assistants will assist with facility check in, sales and registration at the Campus Recreation Welcome Desk. Rental Shop Assistant

Job summary:  

The Rental Shop Assistant will provide access, assistance, and an inclusive environment for all members of the MSU community that are interested in renting outdoor gear or learning more about the outdoors. Rental Shop Assistants will be trained to provide basic education on all aspects of the gear that we rent, including assisting customers with simple bike and ski repairs and maintenance. The Rental Shop also serves as the home base for the Outdoor Recreation Program, so the Rental Shop Assistant will assist students with answering questions about all of the program’s offerings and help connect interested students find educational or community-building opportunities.

This position will work closely with the Fitness and Wellness Coordinator to learn fitness industry formats as they work towards becoming a certified professional. Job summary:

Contribute to the planning of Bobcat Summer Youth Camp curriculum and daily activities at Montana State University through the Recreational Sports and Fitness department.  Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all staff and campers. Work as a team with the Executive Director, Camp director, other program leaders, counselors, and other Rec Sports staff. Supervise and assist counselors throughout the camp day, ensuring safety, smooth transitions, and successful activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Adult and Child First Aid, CPR, and AED
  • At least 2 years of experience in a youth program
  • Ability to work closely and communicate with a diverse group of people
  • Recognize risks and implement departmental risk management procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledgeable of Bobcat Summer Youth Camp policies and procedures
  • Model a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality camp program
  • Plan, lead, and implement programs, activities, and experiences for children in a camp setting

Provide administrative support and student leadership within the Insight program. Assist with creation of educational content and outreach programs. Assist with leading Insight Drug & Alcohol education programs.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in promoting healthy behaviors, sober lifestyles and well-being, ideally on a college campus
  • At least one semester as a student employee in Student Wellness, ideally as an Insight or Health Advancement Assistant.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with creation of educational content, presentations, programs and experiences to facilitate conversations about addiction, sober lifestyle opportunities and support networks

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be knowledgeable/experienced in the activity and hold any relevant certifications.

  • Professionalism and accountability are a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and teach course curriculum and syllabus.
  • Quality and frequent communication with students in-person and using D2L.
  • Maintain a safe and robust learning environment.
  • Keep accurate attendance and grade records.
  • Submit grades at the end of the course.
  • Teach all scheduled classes or talk with supervisor to find alternative class options.

 

CPR Instructor

Job summary:

Responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching American Red Cross CPR/First Aid, First Aid Courses, and Lifeguard training (if applicable).

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently certified as an American Red Cross CPR/FA/AED Instructor
  • Experience in teaching American Red Cross classes is preferred

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and instruct ARC classes to patron(s) and assist them in achieving their certification
  • Thorough knowledge and application of American Red Cross rescue skills and ability to teach said skills
  • Adapt your teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants so they can meet course objectives
  • Enforce all policies, rules and regulations

Fitness Instructor

At MSU Campus Recreation, the Certified Fitness Professional is responsible for providing safe, impactful, engaging and inclusive practices. Depending on the certification of the professional, they will provide industry standard and current practices for one on one or group training. Certified Fitness Professionals are the face of fitness education on campus and will focus on an engaging, welcoming and that promote a balanced view of movement-based wellbeing. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain a current fitness certification
  • Maintain a current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Willingness to be a team player and withhold a positive attitude
  • Be able to commit to a semester schedule

Responsibilities:

  • Professionals are expected to plan and lead safe, effective classes or programming.
  • They will know, understand and enforce all participation guidelines, provide excellent customer service and attend all scheduled team trainings.

Lifeguard

Job summary:

Maintain the safety of the patrons and staff in the aquatics area through practicing active preventative lifeguarding skills, and providing emergency care in case of an emergency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have a current Lifeguard certification

Swim Instructor

Job summary:

Swimming Instructors teach variations of swimming strokes, as well as water safety rules, to students at all levels of experience.

Required Qualifications:

  • WSI certified or equivalent
  • Proven experience working as a swim instructor or lifeguard.
  • Sound knowledge of proper swimming techniques and water safety rules.
  • Strong swimming abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching swimming techniques, swimming strokes, and water safety rules to students with varying swimming abilities.
  • Assisting more experienced swimmers to enhance their swimming abilities.
  • Assessing the progress of students and adjusting teaching programs accordingly.
  • Monitoring students to prevent accidents and injuries.

 

Climbing Wall Instructor

Job summary:  

The Climbing Wall Instructor helps users in the climbing wall area and assists with setting routes, teaching daily belay classes and assessments and ensuring that responsible climbing practices are being followed throughout the space. The Climbing Wall Instructor will also assist students with answering questions about all of the program’s offerings and help connect interested students with educational or community-building opportunities including outdoor rock or ice climbing.

Required Qualifications:

  • CPR/AED certification (or signed up for a course within first week of hire)
  • Climbing Wall Instructor Course Completion (provided as part of training)
  • Ability to attend mandatory trainings
  • Ability to work at least 4-6 hours per week
  • Excitement about reducing barriers to participation in outdoor activities and passing on knowledge about outdoor recreation opportunities in the Bozeman area

Phlebotomist

Job summary:

Phlebotomists perform a variety of duties to help Clinical Laboratory Scientists and other medical professionals at University Health Partners Medical Services. 

Responsibilities:

  • Verifies laboratory test requests and patient identification via electronic health record systems and laboratory information systems
  • Obtains blood specimens by performing venipuncture procedures
  • May monitor glucose levels by performing point-of-care capillary blood collection
  • Collects correct specimens for requested laboratory testing to include throat and nasopharyngeal specimens
  • Instructs patients how to properly collect samples such as clean catch urine or self-collected GC/Chlamydia swabs
  • Performs COVID specimen collections
  • Performs waived laboratory testing as needed
