On this page you will see posts relating to the public health emergency posed by COVID-19 and some of the epidemiological information we understand so far.  This area of research is developing especially fast as the pandemic reaches new countries and areas, so keep in mind that some information can become outdated rather quickly.  A couple of critical points to keep in mind when considering the effects the COVID-19 pandemic is having on public health infrastructure involve:

  • Disproportionate effect on high risk groups (immunocompromised individuals, comorbidities, elderly)
  • Long hospitalization period for severe cases
  • Rapid development of large numbers of cases in relatively short periods of time

These topics will be discussed at length later, but they are just some few things to keep in mind as you read about COVID-19 and public health.
