April 4-H Newsletter pdf download4-H ACTIVITY UPDATE

There have been many changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time all in person 4-H events have been canceled through April 10, 2020. We will update you with more info as soon as it becomes available.
Rec Lab and Sr. Camp have been canceled, and we’ve received word that the Forest Service is closing all campgrounds and facilities, including Camp Rotary, until June 30th. So, effectively, 4-H Camp at Camp Rotary is canceled. If that changes, we will let you know.

Check out the MSU 4-H at: http://www.montana4h.org/resources/remote_connection/index.html for some ideas and activities you can do from home. This is a great time to work on your project books and fill out applications for grants and activities that will take place at a later date. Take some of this time to spend extra family time. This is a great time to read that book you haven’t taken time to sit down with. There are many possibilities. What will you come up with?!

POLICY CHANGE!!

The 4-H Council has voted to relax the dress code for the livestock contests at the JBC Fair. Attire doesn’t have to be black pants and a white shirt. Below is the wording of the new policy:

“Showmanship attire for all livestock classes should be nice, long pants (with no rips or tears, and not faded) long sleeved, collared, buttoned up shirt, clean closed toed shoes. Boots for beef and horse classes.”

The Council has also voted to relax PROJECT book requirements.
The PROJECT BOOKS with activities to be completed each year are no longer mandatory for completion of the 4-H Year. Members are still encouraged to use and complete the books, but will no longer be penalized for not completing them by interview day. There will be an additional entry available during registration for the JBC Fair for each project book, to reward members that complete the project book activities for the year.

RECORD BOOKS ARE STILL REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE 4-H YEAR! IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS, PLEASE CALL THE OFFICE!

Kay Jensen 4-H Memorial Scholarship

Deadline must be emailed or postmarked by
May 1 of current year

This scholarship is in the honor of Kay Jensen. Kay loved what 4-H stood for and what it taught youth. She was involved in 4-H in Idaho helping family members with their projects before moving to Nevada where she was a leader and drove her son all around the state to 4-H events. She made sure that her grandchildren in Montana would join 4-H and enjoy all the wonderful things 4-H has to offer. Even though she never had the opportunity as a child to be in 4-H, she still embodied the spirit of helping others that  4-H teaches.
