Check-In With Office of International Programs

You are required to check in with our office within 15 days after your arrival in the United States, or immediately if you arrive after the start date on your DS-2019. We can then carry out the proper visa documentation process, download your I-94 and activate you in SEVIS in order to guarantee your legal status in the US.

From the Airport

Bozeman is located approximately 8 miles to the southeast and the MSU Campus is located in the southern part of the city. Follow the signs that lead you to Bozeman. You will either enter the city from 19th Avenue or 7th Avenue. From 19th Avenue, drive across Main Street to the next major intersection and traffic light which will be College Street. Turn left on College and drive to 9th Avenue. Free two-hour parking is available on College Street and OIP is located on the 4th story of Culbertson Hall, the pink building at the end of the row of four pink buildings (closest to 9th Avenue). If you enter Bozeman on 7th Avenue, this street ends at Main Street, and you will need to take a right on Main Street for one block to 8th Avenue. Take 8th Avenue south to College Street and park on this street as directed above.

From the Student Union Building and Visitor Parking on the MSU Campus

Walk past the Student Union Building to the central walkway through campus. A good landmark is the bell tower on Montana Hall, a historical building that is at the center of campus. Walk around to the front of Montana Hall and down the hill toward the row of pink buildings that are located on Harrison Street. The building furthest to the left is Culbertson Hall, where OIP is located on the fourth floor, above the MSU Post Office.

Transportation

Bozeman has its own airport, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (airport code: BZN), located 11 miles (17 km) from campus. Six airlines with connections to major American cities serve Bozeman: Alaska/Horizon, Allegiant, American, Delta, Frontier and United. There are non-stop flights from several cities including Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Seattle. If you send the Office of International Programs your travel itinerary at least one week prior to your arrival, we can provide free transportation from the airport to campus. There is also the option of using a taxi or Uber to get to campus from the airport, the cost is approximately $35.

Housing

A wide variety of apartments and rental houses can be found within easy walking distance of campus. Prices vary depending on location, size, and number of people sharing the space. Rent including utilities, for one student per month, will range from $500 to $1,200 per month. The best sources for locating off-campus housing or “roommates wanted” include the Bozeman Daily Chronicle newspaper’s classified section and Craigslist classifieds. Students planning to live off campus should plan to arrive two weeks early to search for housing. A hotel will need to be secured until an apartment is found. Other off-campus housing resources can be found here.
