Harvesting Montana Recipes Test Schools

Montana Team Nutrition Program is seeking six K-12 schools to test recipes collected through our statewide Harvesting Montana Recipe Contest and conduct nutrition education corresponding to the recipe using Montana Harvest of the Month materials. Become a test school for standardized recipes featuring Montana grown and raised foods by submitting your school’s application by February 1, 2021 at 11:59pm MST.

Requirements and Benefits

Test schools will conduct taste testing with students, obtain input from school nutrition professionals, lead nutrition education relevant to the food served, and serve the recipe in a reimbursable school meal. The six schools will be selected using the following criteria: culinary skill of staff, diversity in district enrollment and geographic location, current/past participation in Montana Harvest of the Month (preferred, not required), ability to successfully conduct taste tests, and provide nutrition education, etc.

Each participating school will receive a $2,500 sub-grant award to offset costs of student taste testing, nutrition education, additional staff time, and professional development. Montana Team Nutrition Program staff will provide initial training for the school nutrition program staff of the test schools to ensure compliance with the required processes and ability to properly prepare the recipes and collect data as intended.
