The mission of the Bounty of the Bridgers Pantry (BoB) is to eliminate food insecurity in the MSU community by providing consistent, accessible food resources across campus.

Bounty of the Bridgers is a nonprofit, on-campus food pantry that was started in 2017 to battle food insecurity among college students at MSU. The pantry serves the entire MSU community including faculty, staff, and students. We are seeking a student interested in public health, food security, sustainable food systems, housing security, basic needs, or related topics to join the Bounty of the Bridgers team.

Position:  Bounty of the Bridgers Food Pantry Internship

Pay:  $15/hr

Hours: 10-20 hours per week. Summer and Fall internships available. An ideal intern will fulfill food rescue and pantry operation hours on Saturdays from 10am to 3:30pm and complete the remainder of their weekly hours during our pantry schedule, as it fits around their school schedule: Monday from 1-5pm, Tuesday from 2-6pm, Wednesday from 1-5pm, and Thursday from 2-6pm. There are opportunities for hours other times during the week, but preference is given to interns that can consistently commit to time within the hours outlined above.

Requirements

• Highly organized and self-motivated
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Experience in professional written and oral communication
• Valid driver’s license with insurance and reliable transportation
• Ability to commit to 10-20 hours per week on a consistent schedule
• Ability to lift 40 lbs

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

• Assist in managing the campus food pantry during operating hours
  • Greet clients and explain food pantry policies
  • Data logging and entry
  • Working with volunteers
  • Inventory, organization, and cleaning

• Participate in food rescue on Saturdays
  • Complete food rescue route, collecting donations from Smith’s, Costco, and Rosauers
  • Data logging and entry

  • Working with grocery store staf

• Distribute Snacks to Grab ‘N Go Snack Locations
  • Distribute snacks to 14+ participating locations around campus

• Assist in marketing and advertising
  • Help create and distribute marketing materials
  • Aid in strategic marketing development

• Fundraising and Outreach
  • Help identify community and campus partnerships
  • Plan community and campus events focused on food security or basic needs

Benefits

This internship can continue over multiple semesters and through the summer with opportunities for increased responsibility and leadership.

If you’re in need for more hours (up to 20 per week), scheduling is very flexible outside of pantry hours to complete other tasks as needed.

Parking is available very close to the office.

POSITION: INSIGHT Alcohol and Drug Assistance Center Student Intern

DEPARTMENT: Health Advancement, Student Health Partners

WAGE and HOURS: 15-20 hrs/week, $15.00/hr (with ability to work non-traditional hours)

About the position:

Under supervision of the Director of Health Advancement and the INSIGHT Manager, the student in this position is responsible for prevention, education, and assessment of substance use education programs for the MSU community. Duties may include but are not limited to:

Essential Job Functions:

• Reviewing records of referred students and recording appropriate information into the university’s confidential database system
• Scheduling students to assigned 4-hour psychoeducation seminars
• Conducting a 4-hour psychoeducational seminar weekly with the focus on educating students on the risks of substance use, encouraging students to make low-risk choices with substance use, and educating students on further consequences of continued high-risk substance use behaviors
• Responsible for general office upkeep, administrative/clerical duties, and reception duties
• Provides a safe environment for students to make connections with other students who are in recovery
• Assist in planning, promoting, and coordinating sober events relevant to student well-being
• Develop, facilitate, and evaluate well-being programs tailored to MSU students on a variety of health and well-being topics and review/revise materials for appropriateness to student population as necessary
• Identify and collaborate with other campus and community organizations on prevention initiatives and conduct presentations as requested on substance use prevention
• Planning, promotion, and coordination of INSIGHT office social media accounts and blog
• Perform updates on website as needed to reflect current programs/events/services
• Other duties as assigned

Experience / Requirements:

• Have working knowledge of primary prevention, theory-based practice, program planning, and research/evaluation methods
• Help shape the campus environment and its influence on health behaviors
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills, competence communicating information, and directions and procedures to a variety of people both internal and external to the organization
• Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with other departments on campus
• Demonstrate conflict resolution skills and ability to deal with various personalities in a dynamic work environment
• Advocate for health and well-being initiatives on the MSU campus and in the greater Bozeman community
• Ability to consistently exercise initiative, reliability, self-motivation, and good judgment
• Perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and close attention to detail
• Handle multiple projects, manage time efficiently, prioritize tasks and balance shifting demands
• Work effectively in a team-oriented environment but also have the ability of working independently
• Represent the INSIGHT Office and its programs to others in a professional and courteous manner
• Familiarity with coordinating and handling social media and blogging accounts

Preferable:

• Applicant is interested in alcohol, tobacco, and drug prevention
• Health Promotion/Community Health knowledge
• Experience working with focus groups and/or experience in data analysis
