Crime Busters - Montana state tournament 2022

Students do not need to bring lab materials such as microscopes and the other items listed in the rules manuals; these are only suggestions for practicing. The event supervisor will provide lighters, magnifying glasses and other materials they need.  Students need only bring notes on how to evaluate the tests they perform (see rules manual for exact specifications on notes) and safety equipment.

CHANGE 4/13/22 Mousetrap Vehicle - Montana state tournament 2022

Mousetrap Vehicle will be hosted in North Temp Gym (aka "North Dome" or "the bubble") The surface is called Revolution Tuffshield and is suitable for basketball, volleyball, etc. but is different than a standard wooden gym floor. We apologize for the last-minute change; this was out of our control. The specific flooring material is called Revolution Tuffshield produced by SnapSports. Please add .PDF to the end of this URL and paste it into your browser for a spec sheet. www.snapsports.com/specs/revolution-tuffshield-specifications

The Mousetrap Vehicle event will be held in Shroyer Gym. The floor is a typical gymnasium floor surface. The event was held at this same location at the last in-person state tournament in 2019.

Ornithology - Montana state tournament 2022

The Division B Ornithologycontest will use the Montana State Bird List created by the Montana Bird Records Committee (July 2021 version). Birds that are under review (indicated with an R on the web page and in red font on the downloadable spreadsheet) will NOT be included in the state tournament contest. Note that the national tournament will use the National Bird List included in the Division B Rules Manual, but the Montana state tournament will use this official Montana State Bird List.

NEW on 4/1/22: The room where the WiFi Lab event will be held is 23.1648 meters (76 feet) long.

What are some examples of materials that could be used to create the antenna for Wifi Lab?
Answer: The antenna can be created out of any materials except for commercial antenna parts or magnets (this is from item 3.d of the WiFi Lab rules). Some examples of materials that could be used include uncoated paper clips, metal wires, sheet metal, or metal cans. The antenna needs to fit within a 15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm cube (rule 3.b), and it needs to use an SMA-Male connector (rule 3.c). The antenna should light; the rules recommend the antenna weighs less than 300 grams.
