Dear Montana School Leader:
On behalf of the MSU Science Math Resource Center and the Montana Science Olympiad state office, I want to thank you for your role in educating and supporting Montana students during this unprecedented year.
Since March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic drove the cancellation of the national S.O. tournament in Raleigh, N.C., we have worked closely with the national staff to create a plan for the coming year. (Montana was fortunate to have already hosted our state tournament in November 2019; many states were not so lucky). We want to assure you that although Science Olympiad will look different this year, S.O. will remain a challenging, engaging and collaborative opportunity for your students, teacher-coaches, families and other volunteers.
We urge you to support your Science Olympiad team to the fullest extent possible. We recognize that school delivery methods and restrictions will vary from district to district in addition to being in constant flux. As such, the National S.O. team has developed a variety of ways for your students to prepare, engage and compete as a team—including if students are learning 100% at home.
We will host a Montana Science Olympiad state tournament this spring using a virtual format called “miniSO,” and we hope your school will be among the competitors.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about Montana Science Olympiad and your school’s participation.
