Migrations for individuals' files will begin January 2022. UIT cannot provide specific days or times for migrations. The process will be moving a certain amount of data per day, rather than a certain number of users per day. UIT strongly recommends organizing your files now to avoid rushing that week.  UIT also suggests you review the “How do I prepare data in my Box account for migration” information before the one-week notice for your data migration.

You will receive an email that will advise you of your migration date along with instructions of how to prepare for the migration.

Once your data has begun migrating, do not touch any of the data that is being copied into your OneDrive for Business account.

You can continue to use Box while your data is being migrated.

This data will be copied into a folder at the top level of your OneDrive for Business account called "Box Migration Data: Do Not Touch Until UIT Gives You the All Clear."

You can continue to use any preexisting data in your One Drive for Business account that is not located in the top level of your OneDrive for Business account called "Box Migration Data: Do Not Touch Until UIT Gives You the All Clear."

You will be sent an email when your data migration is completed.

Data that failed to migrate will be listed in the email. You will need to remediate those failures and advise UIT when this is complete so data migration can be finished. Contact your Departmental IT team or the UIT Service Desk if you need assistance.

Your Box account will be changed to "Read Only" after all your data has been successfully migrated.

Effective April 1, 2022

The MSU hosted Box environment will be closed and all accounts and data will be deleted from Box.

UIT has determined it can schedule migrations, with some limitations. If you want to request a specific date, please submit the request to [email protected]. The Box transition team will work with you to fulfill your request to the best of its ability.
