About the Dental Clinic

Payment of the university health and dental fees are required, but MSU student insurance is not necessary. Additional fee are charged for all treatments provided and payment is required at the time of service. MSU dental clinic fees are generally 50% less than those of private practice dentists.

The clinic is a preventive and urgent care facility. Its operation is organized to provide preventive care, emergency care and restorative treatment. Routine cleanings and emergency treatment can be provided for most students. Complete examinations, routine fillings, and other dental treatments can be provided within certain limits.

Appointments

Patients can schedule appointments in person or by calling 994-2314. Patients needing dental treatments other than cleanings must first see the dentist for an examination or consultation. Students who have recently been examined by a private dentist may have their records forwarded to the MSU dental clinic.

Treatment is scheduled according to the dentist's assessment of the necessity, immediacy and severity of patient's needs and according to the availability of appointment space. Only one appointment may be made at a time.

The appointment book becomes increasingly filled as the semester progresses. Consequently, students are encouraged to schedule appointments early in the semester. Early in each semester it is possible to treat many routine fillings. This becomes more difficult later in the semester as the numbers of more serious and severe problems accumulate. Emergencies are always given priority and sufficient time is allowed to ensure their treatment.

Missed Appointments

Failure to show for two dental appointments within a semester results in revocation of dental clinic privileges for the remainder of that semester. All fees are due and collected at the time treatment is rendered. Students with outstanding debt to the dental clinic are not appointed for further treatment until the debt is paid in full.

Insurance

The MSU Medical Insurance Plan for students does not apply to dental clinic services. The dental clinic is willing to assist in the submission of claims for private dental insurance; however, the dental clinic does not accept assignment of insurance benefits. Additionally, the dental clinic does not accept Medicaid, Indian Health Service, Veteran's Administration, or other third party payments.
