Below are examples of sample messages they may be sent when emergencies occur on campus. These messages would be sent through the MSU Alert system and may be delivered via text message, voice calls, and/or emails. These are only examples and actual messages may vary based on situational needs. 

Shelter in Place - Secure 

MSU ALERT: This is a message from the Montana State University Police. Officers are responding to a serious situation on campus. Seek Shelter immediately inside a room with a locking door. Close windows and blinds. Do not leave a safe space until further instructions indicate it is safe to do so. Updates sent every 30 minutes or when the situation changes. 

Active Shooter 

MSU ALERT: This is a message from the Montana State University Police. SHOTS FIRED ON CAMPUS. If you are on campus, assess your situation and RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. If you are not on campus, stay away. THIS IS NOT A TEST! Further information forthcoming. 

All Clear

MSU ALERT: This is a message from the Montana State University Police. The situation is ALL CLEAR. Resume normal activities. 

Earthquake

MSU ALERT: This is a message from the Montana State University Police. An earthquake has affected campus. Remain calm. Evacuate buildings. Report injuries and fire to 911. Do not use matches or lighters.
