Christopher Pinet, Montana State University professor emeritus of French, received the La Renaissance Franšaise medal recognizing Americans who have promoted French culture, language and the country of France.

Pinet received the medal at recent ceremonies at the Rayburn Building on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Francois Delattre, Ambassador of France to the U.S., awarded the medals to Pinet and five other Americans.

Pinet received the Medaille d'Or du MeritÚ Francophone, a medal that recognizes those who devote themselves to the development of linguistic or cultural ties between France and other countries sharing the French language. Pinet received the medal for his service as former editor-in-chief of the "French Review."

Pinet and the other recipients were selected by Americans to receive the award.

This is the third medal that Pinet has received for his service to France. In 2010 he received the Chevalier in the Order of Palms from Patrice Servantie, vice-consul general of the French Consulate in San Francisco. His first medal from the French was Officier in the Order of Academic Palms in 1995.
