BOZEMAN -- Montana K-12 students made short videos this winter to showcase positive examples of healthy changes in their schools. Viewers are now asked to pick their favorite.

Fifteen videos from across the state were submitted to the "Focus on Health Youth Video Contest." Prizes will be awarded to the three top videos. A People's Choice Award will be given, as well.

To vote in the People's Choice category, people are asked to go to the contest website at http://www.opi.mt.gov/FocusOnHealthVideoContest/, watch the videos, and vote for their favorite video. The voting period is open Feb. 20 through 29.

The contest is designed to showcase school programs that promote student health and wellness. The programs might have improved the nutrition in school meals or offer healthy snack options, farm-to-school programs and increased opportunity for physical activity. Winning teams will win a cash prize and have their video featured at statewide conferences.

The Focus on Health Youth Video Competition is organized by the Montana Team Nutrition Program. Montana Team Nutrition works with educators, school administrators, school food service managers, parent groups and community members to provide training and technical assistance centered on implementing student wellness through school-based programs, like school meal programs, nutrition education and physical activity. Located at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana Team Nutrition is part of the Office of Public Instruction School Nutrition Programs and funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
