The MSU Reel Women Film Series, a part of the President's Fine Arts Series, will screen the film "The Arbor" by Clio Bernard at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in room 182 VCB. The film is free and open to the public and will be followed by a discussion led by Tina Buckingham.

In "The Arbor," London-based artist Bernard uses an unusual amalgam of documentary and narrative styles to tell the story of Andrea Dunbar, a gifted English working class playwright who wrote three autobiographical plays before she died in 1990 at age 29 of an alcohol-related brain hemorrhage.

In the film, actors lipsynch to recorded interviews with Dunbar's kith and kin, and other eye witnesses. This is an effecting film about the hardships of working poor women -- particularly the talented Dunbar -- in England's Midlands.
