"Our students -- and their families and loved ones -- have worked so hard to make it to graduation day," said MSU President Waded Cruzado. "This new fall semester commencement will be a wonderful way to recognize their efforts and achievements. We are thrilled to be able to celebrate our graduates in this important and meaningful way."
"Commencement is a big day in the life of a university," added MSU Registrar Bonnie Ashley. "This celebration means a great deal not only to our students, but also to our faculty and staff members who have helped them be successful."
In previous years, fall semester graduates were invited to participate in the following semester's spring commencement ceremonies. The December ceremony provides an additional option and may make it easier for many fall graduates to participate in commencement, Ashley said.
Approximately 800 students are expected to graduate in December. Unlike the spring commencement ceremony, where both morning and afternoon ceremonies are held to accommodate a larger number of graduates, the December commencement will feature one morning ceremony for all graduates.
In addition, many of MSU's colleges and departments may hold individual recognition ceremonies during the week preceding commencement. Class reunions will continue to be held in the spring.
