A concert inspired by epic novels will be performed by Montana State University School of Music bands at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12, in Reynolds Recital Hall.

Nathan Stark, newly hired director of bands, will conduct two ensembles. Selections include "Of Sailors and Whales," a work composed by master bandsman Francis McBeth. The piece consists of five musical sketches of characters from the classic novel, "Moby Dick."

Composed a decade before the theatrical releases, "Symphony No. 1, The Lord of the Rings," by Johan de Meij, depicts the characters and events from the famous trilogy.

Tickets for the concert are $5 general admission, students free, and are available at the door. Reynolds Recital Hall is located within Howard Hall, across the street from the MSU Duck Pond.
