BOZEMAN -- A free public lecture about the nationwide impacts of implementation of the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics will be given Thursday, Oct. 4, at Montana State University.

William G. McCallum, a University Distinguished Professor of Mathematics and head of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Arizona, will speak at 4:10 p.m. in the Procrastinator Theater in the MSU Stand Union Building. His lecture, titled "Igniting the Core: A Once in a Generation Chance for Mathematics Education," is part of MSU's Mathematical Sciences Colloquium Series.

The Department of Mathematical Sciences, the dean of the College of Letters and Science, and the Office of the Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer are sponsoring this lecture.
