Montana State University joins the Greater Gallatin United Way and the Gallatin Valley Mall to celebrate "Lights On Afterschool" as part of the Gallatin Valley Mall's Family Halloween Night Celebration beginning at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Bobcat athletes will be on site at the event to help emphasize positive benefits of kidsLINK afterschool programs.

"Lights On Afterschool" recognizes the importance of afterschool programs, ensuring that children are safe in the hours after school.

According to the Great Gallatin United Way, kidsLINK is the biggest afterschool program provider in the state of Montana and ensures that all children can attend, regardless of their ability to pay. kidsLINK programs provide a safe place afterschool, healthy snack, physically activity, homework support, a LINK between the school and parents and enrichment activities every day. There are 24 kidsLINK sites in Gallatin, Park, Meagher, and Sweet Grass Counties. More than 1,100 children attend kidsLINK programs daily, with more than 2,000 children enrolled.

The Gallatin Valley Mall is hosting its annual trick-or-treat around the mall for children aged 0-12 starting at 5 p.m. Oct. 31 and ending at 8 p.m. For the 32nd year, the mall will sponsor a costume contest. The contest will begin at 6 p.m. in the court near JoAnne's.

The mall will also provide one free photo per group or family as part of the Halloween festivities.
