Montana State University President Waded Cruzado has appointed Adam Edelman as interim Chief Information Officer and Anne Milkovich as interim associate CIO of MSU's Information Technology Center operations. The appointments are effective immediately.
The appointments were made following the death of CIO Dewitt Latimer in a motorcycle accident on May 5. Edelman and Milkovich will share administrative responsibilities for IT Center operations that promote, develop and deliver information technology services and resources to the MSU campus.
"Adam Edelman and Anne Milkovich are valued professionals and vital members of Montana State University's IT Center team," said MSU President Waded Cruzado. "We are confident that they will provide stability and leadership to our IT Center operations as we move forward."
Cruzado said there will be a national search for a CIO at a later date.
“I am honored by the appointment and the opportunity to fulfill the vision of our late CIO Dewitt Latimer," Edelman said. "The IT Center is prepared to deliver innovation through the talents and hard work of all of our staff in support of the MSU’s institutional mission.”
Edelman, 43, has served as MSU's associate CIO in charge of enterprise infrastructure services. Since joining MSU in 2005, Edelman has been MSU's information security officer. Previously, Edelman was director of IT Operations at the Salk Institute in La Jolla, Calif., overseeing systems, networking and support services. He has also led IT organizations at a large defense contractor and a small start-up in San Diego.
A graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Edelman is involved with numerous state and national organizations spanning technical, higher education and information security subject areas. He and his wife, Vickie, have three children.
Milkovich, who was director for administration planning and program management for MSU's ITC operations, said she looks forward to helping to lead IT Center through the many new initiatives that are currently underway.
"We are on a path to transform our operational efficiency as well as the technology experience of our students,” Milkovich said.
Milkovich, 52, has been with MSU since 2006. She started her IT management career with Microsoft and went on to consult for organizations including General Motors, AT&T, Learning Tree International and Global Knowledge. Milkovich is also a professional speaker and the author of "Management Bytes: Ten Essential Skills for Technical Managers."
Milkovich earned an MBA at the University of Montana and is certified as a Project Management Professional and Senior Professional in Human Resources. Milkovich is currently studying for a doctorate in higher education administration at MSU. She and her husband, Tom, have three grown children and run a working cattle ranch in the Shields Valley.
