BOZEMAN – Two Montana State University students who are ROTC cadets graduated July 23 from an advanced leadership course and received special honors during the ceremony on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
Delaney O’Hara from Lafayette, Calif., and Gavin Duecker from Lakeville, Minn., were among approximately 895 ROTC cadets from the 7th and 8th Regiments who graduated from the 2013 Leader Development and Assessment Course.
During the graduation and commissioning ceremony, O’Hara was named one of the top two overall cadets from the 8th Regiment. Duecker was chosen as the 8th Regiment cadet who best represented the Warrior Ethos, a term coined to reflect the embodiment of a soldier.
The ceremony capped off 29 days of training designed to develop each cadet’s leadership abilities. The leadership course is one of the final steps for cadets before completing the ROTC program and entering the Army as commissioned officers. Cadets who attend this training are usually between their junior and senior year in college.
Cadets that were not commissioned during the July 23 ceremony returned to their ROTC programs to finish out their commissioning requirements.
