BOZEMAN – Montana State University's Extended University offers several non-credit computer courses in November, including hands-on lab classes on Adobe's popular Illustrator and InDesign programs.

The course InDesign Basic runs on Monday and Wednesday evenings beginning Nov. 11. In this multi-session lab class, students will learn the features of Adobe's graphic design package, including how to place text and graphics, create custom color swatches, work with master pages and multi-page documents, format text, apply styles, work with threaded text frames and layers, and prepare documents for printing. The instructor is David Ashcraft. The price is $145.

Illustrator Basic is on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons beginning Nov. 12. Students will learn to create simple illustrations by developing and manipulating shapes and by drawing editing paths. The course also covers applying color, gradients and transparency, and working with text and layers. The instructor is Chris Schultz and the price is $165.

A new course called PowerPoint in a Day takes place on Friday, Nov. 8 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and covers every aspect a PowerPoint user might need to know, including creating and modifying templates, color schemes, animations, transitions and much more. The instructor is Ben Scallin, and the price is $79.

Other November Extended University classes:

Intermediate QuickBooks begins Nov. 5 and runs from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Some QuickBooks experience is required, and this class will help students use QuickBooks for payroll, job estimates and time tracking, balance sheet accounts, budgets and more.

Introduction to QuickBooks begins Nov. 18 and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays. This is an entry-level course that also includes an overview of accounting terms and principles. Both QuickBooks courses are co-sponsored by the Montana Women's Business Center.

Word Tips and Tricks is on Wednesday, Nov. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. This new course offers tips, tricks and features for the popular Microsoft software that many people use but few truly master. The course is $59.
