Award-winning author Pete Fromm will speak during the Friends of MSU Library’s 22nd annual benefit dinner and auction, set for Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Montana State University Library in Bozeman.

The event begins at 6 p.m. with a silent auction and social hour with no-host bar, followed at 7 p.m. with dinner and a live auction. Fromm, the five-time winner of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Literary Award, will speak at 8:30 p.m.

Fromm is the author of four novels, five short story collections and one memoir. Publishers Weekly called his most recent novel, “If Not For This,” “remarkable.” His other works include “Indian Creek Chronicles” and “As Cool As I Am,” now a major motion picture starring James Marsden and Claire Danes. Fromm’s next book, the memoir “The Names of the Stars,” will be published next fall. He currently lives in Montana with his wife and two sons.

Auction items at the event include tickets to the Cat-Griz football game on Nov. 21, wine from Mahoney Estate Winery in Napa, Calif., gift certificates from Winslow Studio, dog care certificates, coffee for a year and cheesecake for a year.

Event sponsors include Toyota of Bozeman, Ressler-Chevrolet,  Marilyn "Sue" and Jim Hamilton, Allegra Printing, Bozeman Daily Chronicle, Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Arlene Wylie and First Interstate Bank.

The event will support the library’s efforts to make its world-class Trout and Salmonid Collection more accessible by digitizing the collection. The project includes collecting oral histories from anglers around the world in an effort to create a snapshot of what trout and salmonid fishing means to our society. Interviewees include Bud Lilly, AD Maddox, John Gierach and Joan Wulff. It also includes scanning images of trout and salmonids from the library’s collection to create the world’s most comprehensive database of five centuries worth of trout and salmonid art, photographs, sketches, drawings and other images.

The Friends of Montana State University Library organization is dedicated to enriching MSU, the lives of students and the community by strengthening the MSU Library.

Tickets are $65 for members, $75 for non-members, and $20 for students. A table of eight is available for $525. Attend a 5:30 p.m. VIP reception with Fromm in MSU Library Special Collections for an additional $15. Reservations must be made in advance by Oct. 12 by calling (406) 994-3119 or by registering online at www.msuaf.org/FOLdinner15.
