BOZEMAN -  Hikmet Budak, Montana State University Winifred Asbjornson Plant Sciences Chair, will serve as an associate editor of Frontiers in Plant Science, one of the world’s top-ranking research publications in plant sciences.

Budak’s editorial duties will include managing the journal’s peer review processes, a review by experts in the same field to ensure the scholarly work meets standards for publication, and making final decisions about whether a paper should be accepted for publication in the journal.

“Given the diversity and technological advancements in the plant sciences field, I’m honored to serve as an associate editor of one of the most respected publications in plant science,” Budak said. “Increasingly, plant genetics and genomics research is interdisciplinary and is producing knowledge that secures our ability to understand and maintain a sustainable environment.”

Frontiers in Plant Science publishes international research investigating plant form, function, development, diversity, reproduction, evolution, uses and environmental interactions. It is the most cited plant science publication and the world’s largest open-access plant science journal, according to its website.

In addition to serving as the MSU Winifred Asbjornson Plant Sciences Endowed Chair, Budak is a professor of plant sciences and plant pathology in the Department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology in the MSU College of Agriculture.

Budak also serves as editor-in-chief of Functional and Integrative Genomics, a journal devoted to large-scale studies of genomes and their functions; associate editor of BMC Genomics, an open-access peer-reviewed journal for the genomics field; and he is an editorial board member for PlosOne, a multidisciplinary open-access scientific journal. Budak is also an associate editor of Scientific Reports, an online open-access journal from the publishers of Nature
