Bozeman--Two local Montana State University students received awards for excellence from the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures within the College of Letters and Science.

Rene Marino, a senior in Spanish teaching with an English teaching minor, received the Steven L. Johnson Memorial Scholarship. The $500 award is given to the most outstanding Spanish teaching major to recognize academic success and quality of character. Marino currently resides in Livingston.

Kimberly Strehlow was awarded the Sue Burton Cannon Memorial Award. The $100 award is given to the outstanding junior woman in a modern languages class. The 2002 Park High School graduate majors in German teaching with a K-12 art teaching minor.
