Four Montana robot teams qualify for nationals

BOZEMAN -- Four Montana teams have been invited to compete in a national robotics contest after their recent showing at state competitions. The national championship will be held April 12 to 14 in Atlanta.

Two teams from Belgrade, one from Great Falls and one from Missoula qualified for nationals during two related competitions at Montana State University.

The Belgrade teams won the Winning Alliance award, and the Great Falls team won the Inspire Award during the Montana FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Vex competition on March 2. Thirteen teams competed in this contest, which is primarily for high school students.

The Stampeding Nano Nerds of Missoula won the Champion's Award during the FIRST Lego League competition on March 3. Twenty-seven teams competed in this contest which was for students in grades four through eight.

Students in both contests competed with robots they had built and programmed ahead of time.

Amaze Award -- Big Piney, Wyo.
Connect Award -- Shields Valley
Outstanding Coach Award -- Carol Galey of Shields Valley.

Creative Presentation -- Frozen Atomic Tribons of Great Falls

Team work
First -- RoboRustlers of Great Falls
Second -- RoboSmiths of Missoula
