Montana State University Extension will offer Level 1 Master Gardener classes starting Tue., Feb. 2, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hager Auditorium at the Museum of the Rockies. The Level 1 Master Gardener classes are designed as beginner to intermediate yard and garden classes for those who want to learn how to garden or want to brush up on their yard and garden skills.

The Level 1 Master Gardener class is an eight-week course that will cover subjects including soils, fertility, plant growth and development, growing flowers and food in your garden, lawn care, irrigation, pest management, composting, and proper tree, shrub, and vine planting and care.

The cost of the Master Gardener class is $155 with $70 being refunded after fulfilling a 20-hour volunteer commitment. The class fee covers the cost of a textbook, the Montana Master Gardener Handbook, and other handouts provided throughout the course.

The 20-hour volunteer commitment may include answering horticulture questions for the Extension office, at fairs, or at farmers' markets, writing articles, teaching classes or designing, installing and maintaining community gardens throughout the county. More about the volunteer commitment will be discussed the first day of class.
