Fahima Vorgetts, an activist, organizer, and author, will discuss her recent travels in Afghanistan, and the country's women and children. Vorgetts is an Afghan-American who regularly returns to Afghanistan to conduct humanitarian work on behalf of Women for Afghan Women and the Afghan Women's Fund. Vorgetts has won several awards for her work and has contributed to two recent books: Women for Afghan Women: Shattering Myths and Reclaiming the Future by Sunita Mehta and Behind the Burqa by Batya Swift Yasgur.
Vorgetts' presentation will be preceded by Bozeman Daily Chronicle Associate Editor, Karin Ronnow, who will offer remarks on her own recent travels in Afghanistan.
MCAW is an all-volunteer organization that was founded in Bozeman in 2001. Its purpose is to support Afghan women and children. The proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly to organizations in Afghanistan that offer support services, education, healthcare, and job training to women and girls.
A bazaar at the event will feature jewelry, Afghan arts and crafts, and books on the country's art, culture, and food traditions.
Tickets will be available at the door for $20. Wine and Afghani fare will be served.
