The Montana State University MacGuffin's Student Writing Group is sponsoring a free writer's workshop from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 24, at the Bozeman Public Library.

Danell Jones, a local author and visiting associate professor of English, will host the workshop. It will be based on her book, "The Virginia Woolf Writer's Workshop: Seven Lessons to Inspire Great Writing."

Jones teaches a wide range of classes, but has a special interest in Virginia Woolf and creative writing. Barnes and Noble selected her to write the introduction for the 2006 Library of Essential Reading edition of Woolf's 1922 novel, "Jacob's Room." Her Virginia Woolf Writers' Workshop imagines what it would be like to take a writing workshop from Woolf herself. Jones has woven passages from Woolf's diaries, essays, letters, and novels into imaginary classroom scenes providing a creative introduction to Woolf's ideas for both the beginning writer and the seasoned craftsperson.
