MontanaPBS' Terra presents "The Water Carriers" on July 19 at 11:30 a.m.

The Water Carriers is the story of Callie Blackwood, a Montana State University engineering graduate, and Nina Omwereme Oyamo, a 23-year old woman from the Shirali region of southwestern Kenya.

The lives of these two women, from altogether different circumstances, intersect as Callie travels to Kenya along with MSU's student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). Their mission: to install a well in the hopes of delivering clean drinking water to the Shirali area.

"The Water Carriers" was filmed and produced by Jaimie Jelenchick, a graduate of MSU's Science and Natural History Filmmaking program. Jelenchick was one of eight members of MSU's EWB who went to Kenya in December 2006.

Terra is a science and natural history series that presents stories that speak to the relationship between human civilization and the planet. An accessible and thought-provoking series, Terra offers a window to the natural world by exploring frontiers of research, examining applications of science, and celebrating diversity in our natural environment.

Produced in conjunction with the graduate program in Science and Natural History Filmmaking at Montana State University and Filmmakers for Conservation Ltd. Terra provides independent filmmakers and students a venue in which to present their own perspectives on ecological and environmental topics.
