MSU celebrates Homecoming 2010 on Oct. 7-9

Hundreds of Bobcats from throughout the country will gather in Bozeman this weekend for Montana State University's 2010 homecoming, scheduled Oct. 7-9.

"We look forward to seeing our alumni return home and enjoy the festivities and friendship that homecoming provides," said Jaynee Drange Groseth, president and CEO of the MSU Alumni Association. "

The activities begin on Thursday, Oct. 7. Returning alumni may pick up a homecoming schedule of activities from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at the MSU Alumni Association Office, which is located at the intersection of South 11th Ave. and West Lincoln Street, across from Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The "Go Cats" lighting of Hedges residence complex is set for 9 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 8, is "Blue and Gold Friday." Library coffee coupons will be available all day at the Alumni/Foundation Center and a campus tour at 10:15 led by a student will meet at the Ask-Us Desk. President Waded Cruzado's inaugural homecoming luncheon is set to begin at 11:30 a.m. at Hannon Hall Dining Room. Recipients of the Blue and Gold Awards and the Alumni Achievement Awards will be honored. Tom and Celia O'Connor of Gallatin Gateway and Dave Johnson of Bigfork, will receive Blue and Gold Awards. Chuck Karnop of Bozeman will receive the Alumni Achievement Award.

A hike to the "M" on Mount Baldy is set from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. The first 100 climbers to the "M" receive a homecoming T-shirt.

Alumni Plaza and SPIRIT the Bobcat are one-year-old at homecoming. In celebration, a special gift from the Alumni Association are available at the Alumni Plaza from 2-3 p.m. Alumni area also encouraged to visit the Museum of the Rockies from 2:30-4 p.m. Admission is $13.

A tour of MSU's historic buildings, hosted by the MSU Alumni Association and the City of Bozeman Historic Preservation department, will begin at 3 p.m. from the Alumni Center. The tour is open to the public.

The Downtown Bozeman Association and several Bozeman businesses will sponsor a homecoming pep rally, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.at the north side of the intersection between Main Street and Willson Avenue. President Cruzado, head football coach Rob Ash and several MSU players will attend the event, which is free and open to all. MSU 2010 homecoming royalty will be introduced. The Spirit of the West Marching Band and the MSU Spirit Squad will provide entertainment. There will be free hot dogs provided by The Cannery and Burger Bob's, refreshments and prizes. The event continues throughout downtown with Homecoming Downtown Friday Night.

An on-campus alumni homecoming social is also scheduled from 6-9 p.m. in SUB Ballroom A, including a no-host bar.

Midnight Mania, an activity that includes tournaments, pizza, games and lots of on-campus activities for students, will be held from 8 p.m.-1 a.m. at MSU's Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The lighting of the "M" on Mount Baldy is set at 9 p.m.

Bobcat Saturday activities begin at 8 a.m. with Bobcat Breakfast at The Pour House. Tickets are $10 at the door.

The MSU Homecoming Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday down Bozeman's Main Street.

The MSU Alumni tailgate party begins at 11:30 a.m. at the alumni tent on Kagy Street, at the front of Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats will play Portland State at 1:35 p.m. in the 2010 homecoming game. Only a few tickets remain. For more information, call 406/994-CATS.
