MSU's Optical Technology Center will be hosting a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the invention of the laser at 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, in the Hager Auditorium in the Museum of the Rockies.

The event is open to the public and will include demos and presentations for all ages and education levels.

The Gallatin Valley has become a major center of laser and optics activity in the United States. The event will include brief presentations on that history, how Montana played a role in the invention of Ted Maiman's original laser, and a preview of a documentary in production on the growth of the laser and optics industry in the Gallatin Valley.
