Montana small businesses, non-profits, schools and communities can apply to be recognized for outstanding pollution prevention efforts through an MSU Extension Pollution Prevention award program. The EcoStar awards program, now in its eleventh year, recognizes Montana businesses and organizations that are championing sustainability by surpassing state and federal requirements to reduce solid and hazardous waste generation, conserving valuable resources such as water, energy and clean air, and serving as role models for the state with their pollution prevention efforts.

To be considered for the 2010 EcoStar award program, complete an online application before December 31, 2010 at www.mtp2.org/ecostar. Nominations are also accepted for this voluntary and non-regulatory program by contacting Jenny Grossenbacher at jenniferg@montana.edu.

EcoStar designations are awarded based on the applicant's commitment to waste reduction, environmental benefits they have achieved, amount of waste they prevented and the innovation shown in their pollution prevention activities. EcoStar award winners receive recognition in the Governor's award ceremony at the Capitol, media exposure, display ads, and a plaque of achievement.

More information, including past winners and applications, can be found online at http://www.mtp2.org/ecostar.html.
