Karen Steele, academic adviser and National Student Exchange coordinator in University Studies at Montana State University, has been elected to serve a three-year term on the National Student Exchange board of directors.

Steele was elected to represent universities in the country's northwest region. In addition to Montana, the region includes Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming and Hawaii as well as the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Northwest Territories and Yukon.

"I am most excited about the opportunity to learn a deep understanding of the organization and to work with a geographically diverse group of people who are as committed to the National Student Exchange as I am," Steele said. "It is a fantastic program that allows students to study at another university or college for a year for the same tuition they currently pay at MSU. It is one way to experience a totally different culture while adding depth to their college experience."

With 200 member-universities, the National Student Exchange is a not-for-profit education consortium that provides opportunities for students enrolled at member campuses to study and live in a new location.
