Department of Political Science
Welcome to the Department of Political Science!
Our mission is to foster engagement by our students in political discourse and to develop their political knowledge and skills. We do this by offering a well-rounded undergraduate degree in Political Science and a Master's in Public Administration, while providing students with a rich environment for learning.
Our undergraduate program provides our students with a common foundation in political science, and then allows specialization in one of four options. Our courses are taught by faculty who are scholars and practitioners in their fields. Our classes engage students through thoughtful discussion, simulations of political events and moot courts. We promote student learning with active learning activities supported by on-line learning tools. Our undergraduate program offers students the opportunity to learn from internships in diverse settings, including legislative and administrative offices, non-profit organizations and law practices. Our Political Theory Consortium is a club that meets outside of class and involves students in political discourse, guided by Professor Sara Rushing. And our new discussion series, Politics and Pizza, enables students to interact with invited speakers and each other in an informal setting. We have both a model United Nation class and a model United Nation club that provides students an opportunity to learn about international issues and the UN, while enjoying in simulations of UN decision making.
We offer a Master of Public Administration degree designed to prepare candidates for management and policy making positions in public sector agencies and non- profits at the local, state and federal level.
Our faculty's diverse research, teaching and outreach activities engage our students and the community in issues of ethics, power, identity, globalization governance, citizenship and representation. Our faculty are active scholars with recent awards for their publications, outreach, service and teaching.
Please contact me by phone (406 994 5604) or email (email@example.com) if I can answer questions about pursuing a degree in our department. I welcome the opportunity to discuss our undergraduate program with you. Questions about our masters in Public Administration should be addressed to Professor Shanahan, Coordinator of our MPA program.
