What is your academic history? I got my undergraduate degree from Washington University in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Earth Science because I enjoyed the focus on quantitative techniques in engineering, but wanted to apply those techniques to problems in environmental science. I’m doing that now, as I pursue a graduate degree in Ecology and Environmental Science.

What is your research focus? I am investigating microbial mediated elemental cycling in flowing water ecosystems using simulation modeling and microcosm experiments.

What is/are your future carrer aspiration(s)? I hope to advance the conservation of water resources, promote creative approaches to river restoration, and positively impact aquatic ecosystems. I intend to study processes in aquatic systems that are relevant to improved management and restoration using a combination of modeling, data collection, and rigorous data analysis. I believe I can achieve these goals by working as an academician or as a scientist at a national or state governmental agency, or at a non-profit organization or restoration consulting firm.

Why did you choose MSU for grad school? MSU has all the academic resources I need to come out of grad school with the knowledge and skills I desire for my future career. Also, I found an advisor and lab group at MSU that fit my background and interests very well.

What is one non-academic interest/hobby that you have/do? Running!
