Personal and Consumer Finance – Minor

The Personal and Consumer Finance minor at Montana State examines the lifecycle and ecological factors that influence the complexity of individual and family financial decision-making processes. This minor explores how to foster financial well-being with coursework that builds financial knowledge and capabilities to support others through formal and informal practices. The minor is designed to enhance the student’s major area of stud and is a strong complement to many majors including business, psychology, human development and family science.

Accredited Financial Counselor®
The sequence of coursework prepares students to earn this nationally recognized certification.

Financial Education
This minor provides a strong complement to secondary education majors in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and Social Studies Education. Seventeen states currently require coursework in personal finance for high school graduation.

Individual and Family Well-Being
Coursework includes content and experiences that promote the development of well-being by building capacities to effectively manage resources and finances.

Career Coaching & Professional Skills Studio

Professional career coaches help students with their career exploration, employer networking opportunities and job or internship searches. They also critique resumes and help students practice job interviews. Additionally, the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success offers free workshops for students to develop the professional communication and collaboration skills that are highly sought after by employers.
