MSU team in YNP finds microbial clue to early life

An organism that lives in a smelly cauldron in Yellowstone National Park has yielded new information about how its ancient relatives might have survived without oxygen.

Update on South Gym Roof Collapse

MSU is continuing to assess the situation and to investigate the causes of the roof collapse. The Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center will remain closed today, Friday, March 8. All classes and events in the facility are canceled.

Orser lecture at MSU to focus on leadership and working within the nonprofit sector

Vu Le, writer, speaker, blogger and executive director of a Seattle-based nonprofit, will present "Effective Leadership and Strategies for Nonprofit Success" at 5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Inspiration Hall, located in Norm Asbjornson Hall on the MSU campus.

MSU professor to discuss soil at Montana Institute on Ecosystems lecture on March 11

Jean Dixon, assistant professor of earth sciences at MSU, will deliver a lecture at 7 p.m. as part of the Montana Institute of Ecosystems' Distinguished Lecturer Series.

Registration is open for MSU's Expanding Your Horizons program for girls on March 30

Registration is now open for MSU's "Expanding Your Horizons" event on Saturday, March 30. The daylong program offers creative hands-on workshops to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics for girls in grades 6-8.

MSU research could help weather forecasters improve severe storm warnings

When a hail storm unleashes on Montana's plains, a precise warning an hour or more in advance could allow ranchers to lead livestock to shelter, gardeners to bring in potted plants and residents to protect vehicles and other valuables.

High school culinary competition to be held at MSU on March 8

The MSU hospitality management and Gallatin College MSU culinary arts programs, in partnership with the Montana Restaurant Association Education Foundation, will host a culinary competition for high school students.
