Goal 1:

Established space(s) on campus for BIPOC students to connect and feel safe.

  • Identify existing offices or university partners to house spaces in support of BIPOC students (ie. explore options for growing or adjusting existing DISC space to foster connection and belonging for BIPOC students)
  • Learn and articulate the process for requesting space in the SUB and other campus buildings
  • Establish spaces focused on facilitating opportunities for students to foster academic and career success (ie. accessing tutoring, mentoring, and career coaching)
  • Establish spaces focused on facilitating opportunities for students to foster social connection (ie. building community, meeting spaces)
  • Address anti-Blackness that is often experienced, even in spaces for BIPOC students
  • Consider spaces for BIPOC students to access support following experiences of microaggressions or hostility

Goal 2:

Collaborations with BIPOC students to improve access to reporting channels and sensitivity of outcomes.

  • Review the reporting mechanisms for bias incidents and harassment
  • Learn about policy restrictions on the Office of Institutional Equity and where gaps in responses exist
  • Identify strategies for increasing education about and access to reporting mechanisms
  • Connect with efforts to increase professional development opportunities related to racial equity (Core Challenge 1, Goal 3) to reduce incidences of racial discrimination and microaggressions
  • Collaborate with university partners and offices to provide holistic support to BIPOC students (including University Police, Residence Life, Counseling and Psychological Services, DISC, Office of International Programs, and TRIO)
