EHHD Shared Governance

The College of Education, Health & Human Development is a community in which members are encouraged to demonstrate leadership in any area at all levels.  Individuals in the College have roles associated with teaching, research, service and/or administration.  Organizational governance, change, and development depend on the work and collaboration of teams in departments and programs.

EHHD Leadership Team

Ultimate administrative authority and responsibility for the college rests with the Dean who reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost and is supported by the EHHD Leadership Team.  The leadership team is comprised by the Assistant Dean, Department Heads (HHD and ED), the Associate Dean for Scholarship Development and Academic Impact, and the Department of Education Director of Operations and Accreditation.  This team is the decision-making body for the college.

The Dean is responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the college, while also serving as a member of the leadership team for the university.  The Dean ensures that college activities advance our land grant teaching, research, and service mission.  The Dean is responsible for the college budget, prioritizing where allocations can be reduced and where investments should be made.   The Dean supports and evaluates faculty, as in promotion and tenure reviews, and staff in annual performance reviews.  The Dean is responsible for all internal and external college communications and college events.  A significant portion of the Dean’s time is spent cultivating relationships with alumni and donors and seeking external gifts to support college programs and activities and student scholarships.

The Assistant Dean and Director of Student Success is responsible for EHHD student affairs, the college advising plan in coordination with the MSU Advising Commons, serving as a liaison for IT shared services, coordinating International Programs, assisting the Dean with faculty and staff development programming, and managing implementation and assessment of the college Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Plan.

Department Heads lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs; schedule and staff the provision of coursework; manage the departmental budget; supervise and evaluate departmental personnel and provide professional development opportunities.  Department Heads are responsible for all internal and external departmental communications, for representing the department, and for promoting effective relationships with external groups and organizations.

The Associate Dean for Scholarship Development and Academic Impact (SDAI) along with the Project Development and Grants Specialist constitute the Office for Scholarship Development and Academic Impact (OSDAI).  This office cultivates the college research culture, providing mentoring and support for faculty researchers, planning research initiatives and reporting on the research productivity of the college, and assisting with the communication about college research projects.

Shared Services

The College of Education, Health & Human Development also depends on shared services for administrative and student support, including a Human Resource Business Partner, a Fiscal Shared Services Team, an Information Technology Strategic Partner and Coordinator, and an Advising Team in Each Department.  Advising Teams work with respective Department Heads.

EHHD Advisory Council

An external EHHD Advisory Council provides guidance to the Dean regarding the college strategic plan and priorities as well as philanthropic fundraising.  Members promote and advocate for the college to external stakeholders including university, community partners, policy makers, alumni and friends.  Members meet with the Dean three times per year, bringing a wide variety of experience and expertise and so also serve as mentors on relevant academic topics. EHHD Liaisons

The College of EHHD has liaisons that represent the MSU Library, University Communications, and the MSU Alumni Foundation. The latter assists with cultivating relationships with college alumni, donors, and friends.

Curricular Teams

Curricular teams, led by program leaders and/or team coordinators/leaders in each department, are responsible for maintaining, assessing, and continuously improving undergraduate and graduate degree programs, established options and minors, and certificate programs.  Curricular teams are also empowered to propose and develop new academic programs.  In HHD, four curricular teams are led by a coordinator and program leaders.  Teams include undergraduate and graduate programs organized into the following groupings: 1) Hospitality, Nutrition & SFBS; 2) Community Health, Early Childhood & Human Development Family Science; 3) Health and Human Performance& Health Enhancement; and 4) Counseling (Graduate only).
