What is the first step you need to do to attend an academy?

•Download & fill out the above application and submit the just the application and $200.00 non-refundable application fee to our office. Make check payable to MSU FSTS (Montana State University Fire Services Training School) The medical release can be sent in after your application, but BEFORE the first day of the academy that you have chose to attend.

What happens next?

• Once your application has been received, you will get notification via email and acceptance letter with more information regarding the academy and process, as well as, lodging details of Great Falls.


Professional certification may be obtained after completion of the Academy and submission of the Test Documentation Booklet.

FSTS certification is accredited by both national and international accrediting bodies.
International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC)
and National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (NPQS)

• Fire Behavior and Vents
• Primary Search 2nd Floor
• Live Burn
• Salvage
• Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations

Spots in the academies fill quickly. In order to reserve a spot, the application and tuition must be completed and paid in full within 60 days of the start of the academy you are attending.

Cost:
Tuition (includes one meal per day) - $1950-MT Fire Service Member 
$2950-Private/Out-of-State

Schedule:
Generally 0800 to 2030, however several evenings may go until 2200.

Expect assignments each night in preparation for the next day’s training or testing.

Personal Protective Equipment:
Participants are expected to bring PPE, including leather gloves, helmet, hood, boots, bunker pants, coat, earplugs, and knee pads.

Lodging options:
Academy participants are responsible for their own lodging. Lodging options will be included in your acceptance letter.
