Montana State University Extension
MSU Extension works in collaboration with local partners to identify emerging needs, then we plan and prioritize work to support those needs. We create and extend resources to serve the interests of individuals, families, communities–all Montanans–across generations, across Montana.
Prescription Opioid Awareness and Education 5 Module Toolkit (developed in 2021)
Modules include: An introduction to opioids, proper storage and disposal, stigma and opioid use disorder, community resources, and treatment and recovery resources for Montanans.
Parental Awareness and Action Training Module (developed in 2022)
This one hour parent module is intended for use by Extension Agents, Prevention Specialist, Mental Health Professionals, Community Coalitions, and other Community/Youth/Family advocacy groups across Montana. Parents/guardians/caregivers/foster parents,etc will learn about opioids and stimulants, the dangers, why these medications are misused, warning signs of misuse, an overview of adolescent development, including brain development and decision making during adolescents, counterfeit pill information, risk and resilence factors, what parents can do, and how to talk to their teen, and what to do if they suspect misue.
Public Service Announcements
These videos were produced in collaboration with Montana PBS and the Prescription Opioid and Stimulant Education, Awareness, and Training Grant Team. To-date their are eight completed videos that include:
- Three personal recovery stories (a mother's story, a rancher's story, and a preacher's story of a high school sports injury that introduced him to prescription opioids)
- One informative video covering what are opioids and how they work in the body
- One informative video covering What are stimulants and how they work int he body
- One informative video on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
- One reducing stigma surrounding opioid use disorder and MAT
- One recovery stories video on the successful use of MAT for treatment and recovery

Addiction and Mental Disorders Division of the MTDPHHS
The mission of the Addictive and Mental Disorders Division (AMDD) of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is to implement and improve an appropriate statewide system of prevention, treatment, care and rehabilitation for Montanans with mental disorders or addictions to drugs or alcohol. AMDD provides substance abuse and adult mental health services by contracting with behavioral health providers throughout Montana.
Montana 2023 Standing Order for Naloxone Opioid Antagonists
This standing order authorizes pharmacists who maintain a current active license practicing
in a pharmacy
located in Montana to initiate a prescription and dispense naloxone, a opioid antagonist
used to reverse an opioid overdose
Naloxone Training Courses
Under contract with the EMS and Trauma Systems Section, Montana DPHHS, Best Practice Medicine is coordinating a statewide effort to train Naloxone Master Trainers as part of the strategic plan to combat mortality from opiate overdoses. Completion of the Naloxone Master Trainer program authorizes individuals to conduct Naloxone Training for those eligible for liability protections when administering Naloxone to a suspected opiate overdose in Montana under the 2017 Help Save Lives from Overdose Act (HB333). A 90-minute skills training session is required once the online training is completed.

Incorporated in 1987, the Montana Primary Care Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving access to high-quality, community based, affordable primary health care in Montana. MPCA is the association of Montana’s community health centers.
MPCA works to support and increase Montanans’ access to excellent, patient-centered health care. The association provides training and technical assistance to health centers and works to improve access to health care for all – especially for underserved and vulnerable populations

Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council
Tribal Opioids Response (TOR) is a two-year funded program through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant no. 1H79TI083252 awarded to the Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council (RMTLC) to address the opioid crisis in Indian Country. The goal is to increase access to culturally appropriate and evidence-based treatment services to reduce the unmet treatment need and opioid overdose-related deaths through prevention, treatment, and recovery support services.

Department of Health and Human Services-Indian Health Services
The Indian Health Service, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. The provision of health services to members of federally-recognized tribes grew out of the special government-to-government relationship between the federal government and Indian tribes. This relationship, established in 1787, is based on Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, and has been given form and substance by numerous treaties, laws, Supreme Court decisions, and Executive Orders. The IHS is the principal federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. The IHS provides a comprehensive health service delivery system for approximately 2.6 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to 574 federally recognized tribesin 37 states.
