Employment Details/Requirements

  • Available starting May 28, 2024
  • Camp runs: June 10 - August 2 (No camp July 1 - 5)
  • Hours per week: 35-40 
  • Starting Pay Rate:  $20/hour

Availability for full program commitment is preferred.

Job Description:

Contribute to the planning of BSYC curriculum and daily activities at MSU through the Campus Recreation department.  Ensure a safe and supportive environment for all staff and campers. Work as a team with the Executive Camp Director, camp directors, other program leaders, counselors, and other Campus Rec staff. Supervise and assist counselors throughout the camp day, ensuring safety, smooth transitions, and successful activities. Encourage and support campers and parents in feeling welcome.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, lead, and implement programs, activities, and experiences for children in a camp setting
  • Manage the daily schedule and specific camper medical/emotional needs
  • Knowledgeable of BSYC policies and procedures
  • Model a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to ensure the operation of a quality camp program
  • Handle on site inquiries, concerns, conflict situations, and discipline
  • Administer first aid, handle emergency situations, and follow program protocol as necessary
  • Responsible for preparing camp equipment and supplies for the day
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a youth program
  • Mediate conflicts involving counselors, campers, and families
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work closely and communicate with a diverse group of people
  • Recognize risks and implement departmental risk management procedures
  • Excellent written, oral communication skills and time management abilities
  • Ability to teach and lead various recreational and educational activities
  • Receptive to feedback 
  • Creative minded and willing to contribute ideas for activities and camp programming

Certifications and Trainings:

  • Adult and Child First Aid, CPR, and AED (training provided)
  • Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting (training provided)
  • Summer Outdoor Safety & Blood Borne Pathogens (training provided)
  • Must pass background screening
  • Attendance is required at all staff meetings and trainings
