Intramural Sports Officials:

Definition & Purpose

Intramural Sports Officials and Scorekeepers at Montana State University are a crucial part to the intramural team. They are responsible for providing an atmosphere of fun in a competitive, yet safe, environment. Officials must be able to implement Intramural Sports policies and playing rules in order to maintain an appropriate level of control, fairness, and safety. They should maintain a positive attitude on-site and should always be striving to improve their officiating skills.

Overview & Requirements

  • This position is available to current MSU students with varied hours, typically evenings and late nights. Starting pay is $14.50/hour.
  • Work is seasonal based upon the sports offered. Sports for Fall 2023 include flag football, 8v8 soccer, basketball, and volleyball. No prior experience is necessary, as all training is provided and paid for. It is preferred to have experience or prior knowledge of the sport as a player, official, and/or spectator.
  • Required to be CPR/AED and First Aid certified or ability to become certified.
  • Preferred skills include familiarity with the sport, willingness to learn and improve, positive attitude, hustle, and ability to accept criticism and feedback from peers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend officials trainings and staff meetings
  • Assist IM Supervisors with set-up and tear-down of equipment and inspection of game sites
  • Conduct pre-game captain’s meetings with players to discuss rules and policies
  • Manage games by enforcing rules, keeping score, and ensuring participant and spectator safety
  • Record game scores and sportsmanship ratings for teams
  • Communicate with all Intramural and Professional Staff professionally and in a timely manner
  • Provide a friendly, customer-service oriented environment for participants

Club Sports Assistant:

Definition & Purpose

Club Sports Events Assistants help the Club Sports Program to organize, plan, and execute games and events for club sports teams under Campus Recreation. This position requires staff to hold a high level of organizational and planning skills, along with acute awareness of surroundings. Events Assistants are required to monitor events and respond to situations with professionalism and in a timely manner. Event Assistants should have a desire to learn about the Club Sports Program to create a welcoming and safe environment for all patrons and participants.

Overview & Requirements

  • This position is available to current MSU students with varied hours, typically on weekends. Starting pay is $14.50/hour.
  • Work is based on active sports, which includes indoor and outdoor events for sports including Rugby, Soccer, Lacrosse, Ultimate Frisbee, Volleyball, and more.
  • Required to be CPR/AED and First Aid certified or ability to become certified.
  • Preferred skills include willingness to learn and improve, positive attitude, ability to respond to injuries and other risk management issues, organization and awareness, and ability to accept feedback.
