Goals of the program:

  1. Offer more opportunities for current and alumni students to get general questions about classes and pre-reqs answered.
  2. Offer leadership and mentoring opportunities for students.
  3. Create a pathway for students to interact more frequently with HPA.
  4. Create a warm, inviting, and inclusive environment for all pre-health students at MSU.

 

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Peer advisor weekly time commitment:
    • 4 hours total
      • 1-hour weekly group meeting 
      • 3 hours of weekly office hours in LJH 310
    • Answer general student questions (classes, pre-reqs, MSU student support) during weekly office hours, take notes or pass along messages to Director of HPA.
    • Participate in weekly group meetings about having discussions with peer students, how learning occurs, MSU support resources, diversity and inclusion, mentoring, and other training opportunities.
    • Have an open mind, willingness to grow, and an interest in learning about and helping their peers.
  • Peer mentor weekly time commitment:
    • 1-2 hours total
      • 2 hour initial term meeting
      • Meetings (in-person or online), phone, text, and e-mails with mentee
      • Answer general student questions (classes, pre-reqs, MSU student support, share experineces)
    • Have an open mind, willingness to grow, and an interest in learning about and helping their peers.

 

Background and Eligibility:

  • Junior, Senior, or alumni pre-health student at MSU
  • Ability to commit required hours per week
  • Open mind, willingness to grow, and interest in learning about and helping peers.

 

Application due dates:

Peer Advisor applications are due by May 30th for a fall semester start. 

Peer Mentor applications are due by November 1st for a spring semester start.
